For a skilled rehab or nursing stay to be covered by Medicare, you must have been admitted as a hospital inpatient for three overnights in the last 30 days (please note, some patients may stay overnight in the hospital; however, they are admitted under “observation”). Most of our skilled rehab and nursing patients come directly from the hospital; however, on occasion a patient is discharged home from the hospital and then have a need for skilled rehab and nursing within those 30 days. You’ll need a doctor’s order for skilled care. Your doctor will determine if you have a skilled nursing and rehab need.
